Frequently Asked Questions

What is this site?

AIHWPrices.com compares hardware for running local AI models on your own machine (GPUs, mini PCs, Macs and laptops) by price per GB of memory, price per GB/s of memory bandwidth and price per usable GB. Memory size and memory bandwidth are what decide which models fit and how fast they run.

Where do the prices come from?

Prices are entered by hand from retailer listings, so they can be out of date. Always check the retailer's page for the current price before you buy. The "Last updated" date in the footer shows when the site's data was last changed.

Do the prices include shipping and tax?

They are listing prices and may not include shipping or tax. Check the total at checkout.

How are the speed ratings calculated?

They are calculated from each device's memory bandwidth and usable memory, then checked against real benchmark results. The full method, its accuracy and the benchmarks used are on the methodology page. Phone ratings are the exception: they are hand-entered estimates based on community benchmark reports.

What does "usable memory" mean?

It is the memory a model can realistically use. For GPUs it is the VRAM minus about 3 GB for the system and chat history. For Macs it is about 75% of unified memory, and for Ryzen AI Max+ systems it is 96 GB of a 128 GB system. The methodology page has the details.

What do New, Used and Refurbished mean?

The tag shows the condition of the specific listing the link points to.

Why isn't a device I'm interested in listed?

The list is a hand-picked set of popular, well-tested options rather than everything on the market. Use the "Email Us" link in the footer to suggest a device or report a mistake.

What does the cluster icon mean?

It marks devices whose maker supports linking several units together. Cluster speeds are not rated.
